~Bloodclan Guide~
[/i]
Bloodclan is a very different type of clan from the others. Life is harsh and cruel, and it is never fair. Cats here must be cunning to survive, or just very, very lucky. Despite the cruel life there is a hierarchy among them.
{Alpha Male and Female
The highest position is that of the Alpha Male and Female, with the Alpha Male holding a bit more power then the Alpha Female. The way a cat becomes an alpha can vary. Some cats challenge the existing alpha for their spot, a fight to the death with the victor either holding their spot or a new cat claiming it. At times the victor will show mercy, not killing their opponent but banishing them from the clan instead.
Sometimes one of the alphas will pick a cat in the clan, generally one among the elite guard, to take their spot when the time comes. This is one of the most common ways if a kit is not picked at birth.
The other way a cat becomes alpha is if they were born to the alpha pair and were groomed to be the next alpha. This is usually the strongest kit in the litter and it doesn't matter what gender it is. This kit is protected by the elite guard though it still lives a difficult life. From a young age it is taught how to fight and how to be cunning. Almost every moment of its life is spent preparing for it to take over as an alpha.
The alphas do not have to be mates, though traditionally they are. If they are mates then the strongest kit of their first litter is groomed to be next in line. If not then one of the alphas is either challenged or they pick a cat to take over once they are either to old and weak to hold the position or they die.
{Healer and Healer Apprentice
The healer and healer apprentice care for the sick in the clan using herbs. They are similar to the medicine cats of the clans but they also kill. Sometimes they are sent to assassinate cats using their knowledge of herbs.
These cats communicate with the cats of the Dark Forest in much the same way as the medicine cats communicate with Starclan. They then report to the alphas.
The healer is usually female, though at times there have been toms as healers. The she-cat doesn't choose a mate but she does pick a tom to breed with once. This is because the she-cat usually has one litter of kits, choosing one of them to train as her apprentice. The others either join the elite or the fighters. If the healer is a tom he chooses a mate and picks one of their kits to be his apprentice.
These cats are revered by the clan. It is forbidden to harm or even threaten one. Doing so is punishable by death.
{The Elite
The elite are the strongest cats besides the alphas. They deal directly with the alphas and are not to be trifled with. They didn't get their spot easily. They had to fight and prove themselves before becoming one of the elite. They are also some of the most loyal cats in the clan. If they weren't thought to be loyal by the alphas then they would not be among the ranks of the elite.
They carry out many of the missions for the clans, whether is be infiltrating a clan as a spy or carrying out an assassination. They have one of the most dangerous jobs but its not without its perks.
These cats have many privileges among the clan. They eat second only to the the alphas and the kits of the alphas. Their orders are to be followed and disobeying them is punishable. The kits of the elite are also able to eat before other cats as many of them are being groomed to become elite themselves.
{Fighters
The fighters make up most of the clan. They are just the average cat that has managed to survive and aren't really given much attention. They carry out much of the heavy work and are in the front lines during battle.
Among these cats are the queens, who when bearing kits or having kits at side are treated better then the other fighters. Every cat understands that without kits the clan would not survive. These cats and their kits are able to eat before the rest of the fighters.
When queens do not have kits they are treated just like the rest of the fighters. They do have to watch out though. If there aren't enough kits in the clan then toms are allowed to forcebreed them so that the clan can survive. This isn't the most pleasant of things for the queens but most accept it as their duty to the clan. If a queen fights back during this time it only makes things worse for her and her kits.
Much of Bloodclan depends on your blood. If you're born into a high rank then life is better then you. Kits are usually resigned to whatever rank they were born into. However some cats do fight their way into higher rankings, and surprisingly they are not looked down upon for it. It only makes them stronger. However most never leave the rank they were born into for losing in a challenge spells almost certain death.
