The silver tabby she-cat paced nervously, her tail flicking in agitation. Her ice blue eyes constantly moved, watching all her surroundings at the same time as best she could. The slightest sound, the falling of a leaf, the snapping of a twig, sent her flinching. Silvermist was more nervous then usual. She had been given an apprentice, Rainpaw, though she wasn't sure she was up to the task of being a mentor.
Bad things tended to follow her where ever she went. Her past was stained with many deaths and it had left her a bit damaged. She tried to keep her distance from others, not wanting to cause misfortune to come upon them. The worst thing that could happen was getting an apprentice. She couldn't just not train the young cat, but training her meant being close to her. She just hoped nothing happened to her, she seemed like a nice enough cat and she didn't want to cut her life short.
Slowly she stopped her pacing, trying to calm herself. Her ears flattened against her head and her eyes narrowed. Just calm down. Nothing is going to happen. It was hard, to convince herself that everything would be fine, when her past contradicted it greatly. Everything had seemed to go wrong. She herself wasn't even sure how she had survived to be a warrior. Most times she wished that she had died in the place of the others, so she could stop causing pain and misfortune. It followed her like a ghost, always there, watching and waiting. With a sigh she opened her eyes and sat up straight, waiting patiently for her apprentice to arrive. She just hoped everything would end up alright in the end.

Opening her maw in a wide yawn Rainpaw closed her eyes before blinking them open sleepily. Nightmares had haunted her dreams last night and she had slept fitfully. Still she needed to be awake, she had just barely became an apprentice and been assigned a mentor, Silvermist. Her weariness unfortunately seemed to mask her excitement. She was meeting with her mentor for training and needed to be alert. Rainpaw sighed sadly wondering how she could ever be good enough to become a warrior. Flicking her ears the she-cat wondered what her mentor would teach her today. With that she resolutely padded in the direction of their meeting place, eager to begin. when she spotted Silvermist the grey she-cat greeted her kindly enough meowing "Hello Silvermist, sorry it took me a while to get here" The apprentice swished her tail nervously back and forth, once again wondering what the warrior would teach her.

The silver she-cat jumped when her apprentice addressed her, her claws digging into the ground. Rainpaw had caught her off guard when her back had been turned. She took a few deep breaths, forcing her fur to lie flat. When she had calmed she really took a good look at her apprentice, her pretty blue eyes gazing intently at the younger cat. Her tail flicked once as she took in Rainpaw, the new apprentice looked tired. Her eyes were dull and she just didn't seem to have that spark that most new apprentices had. She could imaging that it was a hard night for Rainpaw just by the look of it.
With a nod of her head she returned the greeting, making a mental note to keep training light today so as not to completely exhaust the young cat. "Its fine. I was here early anyways." Her voice was quiet and unsure. She felt nervous, having to address another in an authoritative way. "Umm, today I thought we could work on your hunting skills," Her words came out quickly, almost breathless, like she had run a far distance. "We'll focus mainly on the different types of stalking techniques." She hoped she was doing okay, but with no one but her apprentice around she had no idea if she was or not. With another deep breath she tried to focus on the session.

Rainpaw tilted her head slightly in confusion. The silver cat seemed jumpy. I mean yes she had approached from behind but still. She shook her head, simply forgetting about it. She moved forward slowly still exhausted from the night before. " Ah, I see" mewed the young she cat slowly. She took in the appearance of a nervous mentor. Who seemed unsure of what to stay. That sounds good the younger cat mewed stifling a yawn. Maybe this would be able to wake her up she hoped so. twitching her tail slightly she kneaded the ground with her paws. studying her mentor once again she decided to offer some encouragement. "that sounds really wonderful, silvermist."

With a slight nervous nod the young mentor dropped into a crouch. Her paws were tucked neatly behind her, her tail held carefully, low so that it would not be seen sticking up but above the ground so as not to made any sound. It was a delicate balance that took much practice.
Slowly she inched her way forward, keeping her weight balanced and her steps light. She took her time, this technique was not about speed but rather stealth. "This is the basic technique for catching mice. They will feel the vibrations from your pawsteps and so the key is to keep them light and your weight balanced. Take your time and when you are the right distance you pounce. You try."
