.GANDAKI.MEANS.DANGER.
The seemingly peaceful inland town of Gandaki, Northern Territory, appears to be of a calm atmosphere. Though not exactly 'beautiful', the rusty tin rooves and dust red desert sand certainly suits a small amount of Aussies.
The town consists of locally owned stores, along with the internationally famous animal sanctuary, Pandorium Warrakan Djurkuma, named by the town's Aboriginal residents.
Surrounded by thick shrub, and within a massive national park, there is only one way in and one way out, adding a huge risk in the event of any natural disaster that may occur. The dense, untouched bushland is the ideal fuel for enormous bush fires, whilst Gandaki's location, only a short distance from one of Australia's largest deserts, has resulted in an ongoing drought, causing water to be scarce, and crops and stock to die off.
Despite this, people still attempt to make a living off the dry and dusty land.
If the risks of mother nature aren't enough to scare you off, maybe you should consider the snakes, spiders and nameless other venomous critters which make Australia infamous, and like to call Gandaki their home. Humans also possess a danger to themselves. Limited police numbers mean there is a low amount of control over the town, and crime rates are high here. Violence, murder, rape, illegal drug dealing, robbery; you name it, Gandaki's got it!
Not scared yet?
