Seedpath was taking a walk down by the shore again. The soft lapping of the lake soothed her bitter heart. Once again some kits and apprentices had teased her about her heigth. She was terribly small, but she wanted to be respected and nolonger underestimated. She'd proven herself to Halostar, why couldn't the rest of the clan accept her? She wasn't the kittypet her mother was, and she had held her own in mock battles, though she was never chosen to fight in real encounters.
Still, Seedpath hoped that one day the clan might fully accept her. She wan't ambitious enough to want to be deputy or leader, but she wanted something. She'd even been offered an apprenticeship by the medicine cat, who didn't think she could make it as a warrior, but Seedpath's determination and pride wouldn't let her choose that path. No, she had to find a way to make it as a warrior.
She paused and face the breeze, closing her eyes and breathing in calmly. It was a beautiful evening, and she wanted to be able to enjoy the beauty without the need for her anger over the insults.

The little apprentice wandered down to the beach. She had just returned from a hunting patrol and wanted someplace to relax that wasn't filled with cats running to and fro like they were in camp. She relished the feeling of the soft sand under her paws, her remaining senses much more adept due to her lack of hearing.
She had long gotten over the fact that she was deaf, it was hard at times but she no longer wallowed in self pity. Instead she looked at everyday with bright eyes and determination. Letting her eyes wander she spotted a small figure near her. Taking a better look she realized it was Seedpath, an abnormally short warrior but she liked her. She had her own fire and determination, in fact she often looked up to the older cat for guidance when she was feeling a bit down. She too was often looked down upon by other cats for being different. They didn't let her fight in real battles, only allowing her to practice. But she was a fierce warrior and one not to be reckoned with. Silentpaw had a deep respect for her and was one of the few that didn't care that she was different. "Hi Seedpath."

Seedpath was jerked out of her thoughts as a greeting was sent to her by a familiar voice. She turned around and flicked an ear before smiling at Silentpaw. They were friends, because they could relate to one another's feelings of longing to be better than other cats thought they could be. She was glad Silentpaw of all cats had found her.
She sat down and padded the spot next to her to invite Silentpaw to come sit on the dry shore. It was a warm evening for leaf bare, even though the wind nipped eagerly at them, whipping their fur until they could feel its bitter chill running down their spines.
The sunset, however, was a distraction from the cold. It was a dazzling display of burning oranges and deep purples and vibrant pinks. Regardless of why she had come out of camp, Seedpath was glad to be able to watch this, and glad Silentpaw was here to share it.

Silentpaw nodded, understanding Seedpath's message. Sitting beside her, the little apprentice curled her tail around her paws. Wind ruffled her pelt, her fur thicker then normal due to the cold leaf-bare moons. She couldn't wait for new-leaf to come around, when life would return to the forest.
She missed the green leaves, ranging in shade from light green to deep emerald. She missed the way the light filtered down to the forest floor, its color different from the rays of the other clans, tinted green as they made their way through the thick canopy. The feel of grass beneath her paws instead of snow would be relished and the thick undergrowth of the forest would aid their hunting.
Gazing at the sunset she took in the colors, how they blended together yet each stood out on their own, vibrant and fierce. Much like the clans, each cat being an individual with a distinct personality and goals, but working together to form a strong clan.

Seedpath wondered whether to speak, or just take in the beauty around them. She wondered what Silentpaw preferred, but had no idea how to kindly ask that. She flicked her short tail and tapped Silentpaw's shoulder to make sure the apprentice could see her before speaking, that way Silentpaw could watch her lips move to help her figure out what Seedpath was saying.
"It's beautiful isn't it?" She said, smiling. She spoke slowly, but it was one of those moments you wanted to take slow and savor. You wanted to hold it in time for forever.

She turned her head to face the warrior when she felt the tap on her shoulder. Carefully she watched Seedpath speak, reading the words as they flowed from her mouth. She focused completely on that, not wanting to make any mistakes.
Glancing back at the sunset she spoke. "It is. Its very peaceful and it gives much time for one to think about things." The tip of her tail flicked gently, repeatedly, like she was keeping the rhythm of something. But she wasn't even conscious of making the movement. "Is something bothering you Seedpath?" She was cautious with her question, not wanting to upset the warrior but also wanting to give her someone to talk to if she needed it.

Seedpath grimaced. Silentpaw was very intuitive, and typically could sense when something was bothering her, but Seedpath didn't want to ruin the mood of the moment, but at the same time she wanted to talk it out.
"Some cats were teasing me again." She admitted, making sure to look at Silentpaw regardless that she wanted to study the forest floor. "I hate being called 'Shorty' and "Tiny" and all the other offensive names they think up for me." Seedpath admitted, feeling bad that she was venting to Silentpaw. The apprentice in some ways had it worse than Seedpath.

Her ears flattened in anger. She hated it when the clan said bad things about her friend, they were her own clan mates, they were supposed to be supportive of her, caring, kind. But instead they called her names and made fun of her size.
"Don't let it get to you. They just don't understand you because your different. Your a fierce warrior and just as good as the rest of the warriors, even better then some. One day they'll see it too." One day Seedpath would prove to her clan that just because she was short it didn't mean she wasn't as good as the rest of them. It was just a matter of time.

At first when Silentpaw flattened her ears, Seedpath though it was something she said, but then she realized she was mad at the clan, not her. She listened to her young friend, who sounded so wise - wiser than her years (or her peers) gave her credit for.
"Thanks Silentpaw. You are going to make a great warrior too." Seedpath said, laying her tail on Silentpaw's shouder. "What are you doing out here?" Seedpath asked kindly. She was happy Silentpaw was able to understand, even if she wished the little cat didn't have to overcome such a big challenge.

She smiled at her friend's words. She hoped that one day she would become a warrior. Her parents were completely against her being trained and many members of the clan thought she would only become a liability in battle. But there were a few that believed in her, Seedpath being one of them.
"I just got back from a hunting patrol and I wanted someplace peaceful to relax. Camp is quite busy at the moment, the kits are all excited over the snow and the queens as well as any other cat are trying to keep an eye on them. There are patrols coming and going. Over all its just a bustle of activity."

"Oh sounds just lovely." Seedpath said dryly. She hated camp when it was that busy, preferring to have some place quiet and calm. Of course, kits were bound to be a pawful and patrols had to be sent and therefore they had to return too.
Still, the peaceful shoreline was great for them to escape. it was chilly, and Seedpath could have asked for less wind, but she wasn't going to complain. What good would it go anyway? She could go back to camp, but the shoreline appealed to her more.

She laughed softly. "Yeah, its a blast." She knew her friend disliked when it was that busy. Some days she even counted herself as lucky for not being able to hear the ruckus going on. But at the same time she felt a hole in her for not being able to hear anything ever. There were so many sounds she was missing out on, experiences she would never have.
She sighed softly, looking back out at the lake. It was so peaceful here, she wished it could always be like this. But there was work to be done, new battles would be fought between the clans eventually, it always happened given enough time. Truces would be formed, then broken again moons later. A never ending cycle. But for the moment all was at peace at the lakeshore.

"How long do you think it'll take them to settled down?" Seedpath asked. She wasn't sure how long they could stand the cold after the sun finally sank into the horizon. It was certainly going to get colder, and Seedpath didn't want Silentpaw getting sick.
Painful memories of her fathers illness came to mind. He had caught greencough, and was ill for a quater-moon. The last night things had looked hopefull, and Seedpath thought he'd be up and on a patrol with her in a few days. The next morning he was gone. It had only been 12 moons since then, and she was still hurting.

She shrugged softly. She wasn't completely sure when it would quiet down. However, the sun would be completely gone soon and the kits would be put to bed for the night. "Well, sundown is coming soon and the kits should be asleep shortly after. Once they aren't running around anymore things should settle down."
A strange look appeared on Seedpath's face. She seemed like she was remembering something. It made Silentpaw a bit antsy, for she seemed sad and upset over it. Gently she laid her tail on her friend's shoulder, silent words of comfort flowing from her.

"Thanks. I'm just missing my father." Seedpath said by way of explanation. "He's only been gone four seasons, but it seems like longer." In truth, time seemed to ground to a slow crawl after her father died. A day seemed to last a moon. Of course, with little to do it wasn't easy to have fun.
Her father hadn't been overly involved in her life, but he defended her as a true warrior, loving and kind. He would accompany her on patrols and try to help the warriors see past their biases.
