Snowflower’s fur shone brightly in the sun as she padded through the forest. It was a crisp, warm day and there was hardly a cloud in the sky. Snowflower glanced at the sky, it was just past sunhigh. She expected her apprentice, Frigidpaw, to be on time even if she wasn’t. She had been busy finding cats to send out on patrol and had lost track of time. Well aren’t I a great mentor… she thought sarcastically. Snowflower decided that she would just see how much her apprentice knew today. It was a beautiful day and they had plenty of time.
[ooc- sorry it’s so short. Didn’t realize I’d have to go so soon.]

The white apprentice sat somewhat patiently in the clearing where he was told to meet Snowflower. He was still save for the tip of his tail which kept twitching, the only outward sign of his impatience. He tried to be as patient as possible, glad to finally have a mentor of his own, but it was still difficult. He wondered what it must be like for Snowflower, being deputy and having so many duties on top of being a mentor. He had never really thought about it, but it couldn't be all that easy for her, having patrols to arrange and such.
His cold blue eyes watched for any sign of his mentor. He hoped she would arrive soon so he could begin his training. He just hoped he wasn't too far behind the others. He didn't want to prove to be a disappointment when she had so many better things to be doing then mentoring him. He let out a soft sigh, his eyes still alert on the forest around him.
[ooc-Its fine. I've had that happen to me before.]

Snowflower walked into the clearing to find that her apprentice was already there. Well since I am late... she thought. “Glad to see that you’re punctual even if I’m not.” She meowed, offering no explanation before she continued. “Ok, as you know, your apprenticeship has been a bit…different… since you’ve only just received your mentor.” She began before bending to remove a piece of grass that was stuck in one of her claws.
“So today I’m just going to assess your skills. All your skills…. Starting with fighting and then you can go hunt for the elders later.” She said knowing he would be so excited for the prospect of having to hunt for the clan before he could eat something himself. She gave her chest a quick which was a habit of hers and stood up. “Ok, first things first. Attack me.” She mewed simply as she stood calmly watching him.

Rising to his paws he greeted his mentor with a nod. His ears were pricked forward as he listened to her speak. Great, we're starting with an assessment.[/iNow she would really get to see how far behind he was. His hunting wasn't terrible but his fighting skills weren't all that great.
With a sigh he watched her, looking for any opening at all. With a flick of his ears he darted in, hid front right paw outstretched to strike her front paws, hoping to knock them out from under her. ]

Snowflower watched her young apprentice as he studied her. There… she thought as he moved in to attack. She leaped nimbly to the side and swung her own paw, claws sheathed, in a direction where it would hit him firmly rather than painfully on the side of his head. “You’ll have to do better than that.” She said sitting down calmly. “It was a good thought but your eyes and your posture gave you away. I saw where you were looking and what direction you leaned in before you actually moved to attack.” She explained. “Don’t worry. You would be very talented indeed if you could overcome your deputy on your first try.” She said her voice light with some amusement.
“Now, as I said before, it was good thought. Knocking your enemy off balance is a key thing to do. It would leave them vulnerable. You did good to think things through and not just attack me at random.” She praised trying to raise his confidence. She could tell that he wasn’t sure of himself; most apprentices wouldn’t be if they were told to attack their deputy. He needed to be confident if he was ever going to get a blow on her. She stepped back a few steps and took her calm standing position again. “Now try again. Attack me.” She ordered.

He took her critique without blinking. At least he was finally learning something. With a low growl he darted forward again as though he was going to strike in the same way. At the last second he launched himself in the air, aiming to land on her shoulders and push her to the ground.

Snowflower watched as he moved forward and then leaped at the last moment. Interesting strategy… she thought. She thought quickly and leaped into the air just as he was over her, causing herself to crash into him. She was bigger than him and her weight advantage caused him to be thrown away from her. She stepped back and shook the dust from her fur. “You must learn to expect the unexpected though. Once a warrior realized what you were doing they could react in any way… as I just showed you. You have to control your body weight and speed so that they won’t be able to unbalance you.” she meowed. “Good strategy though.” She purred. “Now she said. Its my turn.”
Snowflower crouched down and began to circle Frigidpaw. She began to creep toward him and raised her paw, swiping at his ear. Start slow, giving him time to react. she reminded herself.

The tom ducked beneath her blow, but just barely in time. With a low growl he darted forward toward her exposed underside. I wonder if she'll she this one coming. I bet she will though. I'm so far behind on this aspect of my training. Frigidpaw was careful to keep his claws sheathed at all times, not wanting to accidentally scratch his mentor and have her angry with him.

Snowflower saw his blow coming and tried to dodge. Instead of taking the blow on her underside she took it on her right side and was pushed sideways a few steps. “Good.” She said panting. “Not a devastating blow but you got a piece of me. Very good.” She praised. He has potential…
“Ok, now tell me. When you are facing a larger opponent, what’s the best strategy? Now I’m not talking about myself. I’m a small cat but you’ll soon be bigger than me. There isn’t a huge size difference between us. I’m talking about a much larger opponent.” She asked. Snowflower was smaller than an average cat and was truly only as big as an older apprentice. But I’m fast…

He took her praise with a nod of his head, though his emotions were flying with the kind of words, words he hadn't heard in so long. Though he wished to prance around like a happy kit he remained focused, not allowing anything to distract him. His head tilted as he listened to her question, thinking before giving an answer.
"Hmm, I would focus on being quick and strategy. Brute strength wouldn't work again a larger cat. You would have to be careful to dodge as many of their blows as possible since they would have much strength behind them." He paused, visualizing a fight. "You would try to get them off balance and confused. If you are fighting one on one then speed is your greatest strength. If you have a partner then you would try to confuse the cat, quick darts in and out with fast lashes from both cats would work well."
He hoped he had given her the answer she was looking for. He didn't want to disappoint her, especially since he had only just gotten praised. The worst would be if she thought that maybe him blow hand been pure luck and nothing more.
