Her blue and amber eyes watched the sky, the thick gray clouds that gathered above dimming the little clearing she sat in. Her gray and white pelt was pristinely groomed for her being just a kit, though soon enough it would be dirty again and she would have to clean it all over again. But that was something that came with being a kit.
Her bright eyes watched as the first few drops fell from the sky, small, barely noticeable, they didn't even leave marks on the earth beneath her feet. Her little tail twitched a bit, the end quivering minutely. Quickly she jumped to her feet, walking around the clearing to gaze at the sky from different angles. Slowly the rain began to pick up, the small drops growing bigger, leaving their mark on the ground. A soft pattering filled the air, the sound of the drops hitting the leaves and the river that flowed nearby.
With a small laugh she darted around the clearing, playing in the rain, splashing in the already forming puddles. Soon enough her fur was soaked and splashed with brown mud. It was sticky on her paws, but she didn't mind. Rainkit was enjoying herself, like any other kit would. Except she didn't have a mother to shoo her in out of the rain into the warm nursery. Since she was older the queens didn't keep as close of an eye on her, letting her wander around camp so long as she stayed out of trouble. That was just how her life went. It was a simple existence, but one she enjoyed.

Tigerlily felt like she'd been walking for an eternity. She ached all over, from the end of her pink button nose to the tip of her tail. Even living her whole life outdoors hadn't adequately prepared her for this type of journey.
None of the smells here were familiar to her and more importantly her belly ached for lack of food. At least in the barn there'd been field mice and once in awhile the masters' would put out milk for her and her siblings. Though it was rare she got anything aside from a few leftover drips when they were through. Still it was something as opposed to the nothing she could find this deep in the wilderness. She'd been following a river in hopes of spotting a fish, but so far nothing had swam close enough for her to catch with her paw. There was no way she was gonna brave walking slippery rocks and risk drowning for prey, especially when the water moved at such a speedy current. No, she'd wait for something with four legs to cross her path. If anything ever did.
Plodding along exhausted, she paused to attempt to groom herself. She got caught in some type of thicket the day before and was still finding brambles caught in her fur. Suddenly though she felt a cold drip of water hit her square on top of her head. Shaking her fur out she looked up and noticed the sky was filled with dark clouds, and she heard a rumble of thunder, getting her trembling with fear. Letting out a frantic mew when she felt another drip, she ran as fast as she could in search of anything resembling shelter. Already though she was dripping wet and her paws were coated in mud.
Scrambling to find someplace under cover, she darted into a clearing but skidded on a hilly spot, lost her footing and landed on her belly in a mud puddle, making a plop. Too tired and hungry and wet to move she didn't know what else to do but cry. She wanted to be brave and tough this out but didn't seem how it was possible, and more than anything just wanted to be back in the barn with her mother.

Her ears pricked and she spun around, searching for the sound that had caught her attention. Near the edge of the clearing was another cat, or at least it looked like a cat underneath the mud and dripping fur. But then again, she didn't imagine she looked much better either. Taking a few tentative steps toward the newcomer she tilted her head to the side, listening carefully. It sounded like the cat was crying, though Rainkit wasn't completely sure.
Gently she sniffed the air, wondering where this cat had come from. She didn't recognize her from camp though, so she probably wasn't from around here. Slowly she reached out with a paw and poked the cat, trying to get its attention. "Umm, hi. Are you okay?" Her bright eyes were lit with curiosity and her ears flicked as she waited somewhat impatiently for a reply. Quickly she brought her paw to her mouth, licking it before dragging it over her ears and face, trying to look a little more presentable. However, the only thing that would get rid of all the mud would be a dip in the river.
