<-->Autumnflower<-->
The rock that lay beneath her burned to the touch of a pad, though under her golden pelt it was nirvana. Autumnflower stretched her hind legs and flipped onto her belly, lifting her head to stare off into the distance with her deep emerald eyes. Her whiskers twitched for a moment before she shook her head, dust flying from her fur and settling once again on the warm rock.
The she-cat could smell the earth and the growth around her, it was all so natural and wonderful. Her ears pricked and she turned her head swiftly in time to watch the lizard's tail disappear from view. Her tail twitched and her eyes held no emotion as she turned her head back to stare blankly at the horizon.
Soon, though, she grew bored with the view. Autumnflower lay her head upon the rock once more and closed her eyes for another moment, resting and thinking.

The light ginger tom stalked closer, his eyes focused entirely on the mouse at the base of the rock. Beneath his spotted pelt strong muscles rippled as he stepped forward, every movement controlled. Softly he set his paw down, careful to make no sound. He held his tail flat, not touching the ground but not sticking in the air either. The tip of it twitched with the thrill of the hunt.
Taking a deep breath he pounced, claws digging into the small warm body. He let out a triumphant growl, deep and loud. He was just about to grab his kill when he heard a noise above him on the rock. It made his stop, wondering what or who it was. Carefully he put his font legs on the warm rock, standing on his rear legs so he could peer over the top.

Autumnflower jumped slightly, surprised by the sudden intrusion. She stared into the tom's blue-green eyes. Her green eyes still calm, but showing her shock.
"Hello." she purred, tranquil demeanor returning. Her tail still twitched, but this was more of a nervous tick from being startled. The young tom smelled of carnage and it made her mouth tingle and water.

His eyes met the green orbs of Autumnflower. "Hi Autumnflower, I caught a mouse. You can have it if you want?" Shoving the limp form in her direction he gave her a peace offering for startling her. Besides, it was better to respect any of your elder's even if they weren't tons older then you.
He waited, wondering if she would accept his gift or not. Either way, some cat would eat the mouse. She would either eat it here or he would take it back to camp and some other cat would eat it. And he would wait until everyone else had eaten, only taking his share once the clan had been fed. Or unless a warrior told him he could eat. That was just the way things worked in the clan and he didn't question it. After all, it was part of the warrior code.

She brightened slightly when the mouse was nudged towards her. "Thank you, Fadedpaw. that's very kind." Ahe said before picking it up and placing it between her paws. she tore a bit of meat off of the mouse's tiny frame and chewed for a moment. She soon looked back to the apprentice before her. "How is your training going?" she asked, her eyes smiling.

The young tom shrugged. "Its okay. I don't have a mentor yet, but I'm still keeping up with the others. I just go out with different apprentices and their mentors and learn what they learn. It's not as personal though, so its harder to learn. But I'm doing okay."
It wasn't the easiest way to learn though, that was for sure. He didn't get that one on one time really needed to iron out the kinks. Sure, he was learning the basics, but none of the other cat's mentors really spent any time focusing on him. They didn't really critique him either, so he had to learn it all on his own through trial and error. It kept him busy though, so that worked out pretty well. He was the kind of cat that was constantly moving, so having to learn things on his own worked well, since he kept him constantly trying to better himself through hard work and persistence. And it kept him out of his clan's fur.

"oh, well. I'm sure you'll find a mentor soon. if not, then it will only make you stronger." She said, she felt for the young tom. She didn't always have the best training herself, but she worked through it and it generally made her a stronger warrior.
Autumnflower continued on the mouse until there wasn't any meat left on the bone. After she was finished, she began cleaning herself. She started with her paws and worked over her slender body, making her golden pelt shine. She ended by rubbing her head clean with her forepaw.

"Yeah, I guess. I just have to wait a little longer." He just hoped he didn't get too far behind the other apprentices. He already was going to become a warrior later then them, since he couldn't be made one until he had had one on one training with his own mentor. He just hoped that it wouldn't be too much longer before he got one.
So, uhh, how was the mouse?"

"very good, thank you again. I'm sorry I didn't share. bad habit" She said, a bit embarrassed. She leaned forward and pressed her cheek to his for a second in thanks. Her eyes shown with gratitude.
Autumnflower stood and stretched, stretching her forelegs forward and lifting her rear high to stretch her back. Her tail twitched and she straightened out. "if you don't mind my asking, what are you doing out here, Fadedpaw?" if she could smile, she would be. her expression was warm and welcoming.

His face flushed with warmth as her brushed against it. He had never been this close to a cat before and it was kind of nerve-racking. He knew it was just a friendly gesture though. "I was just wandering around and then I decided to hunt. I didn't really have anything to do in camp."
The tip of his tail flicked back and forth. He wondered if he would get in trouble for leaving camp. But at least he was out of everyone's fur. Still, they would probably still find something to complain about. Like the fact that so far he had no prey to bring back. "I should probably hunt again before I go back."

"well then maybe we could do so together." She said as she leapt down off of the stone to the dry earth bellow. Her tail flicked again, only this time with excitement.
"I'm impressed, you caught that mouse with no trouble what so ever." she grinned a toothy grin and swished her tail.

The tom grinned. "Sounds good to me, its always more fun to hunt with a friend too." Stepping back he let his front paws fall to the ground. Pacing away a few tail lengths he waited for Autumnflower to join him.
"Thanks, it was kind of a lucky catch though. I was too in the open and it should have seen me coming." He shrugged, he still had much to learn. And by critiquing himself he was only getting better and stronger. There was always room for improvement, even in the most seasoned warrior. It was just a matter of taking the time to do so.

Autumnflower followed him, stepping slowly and quietly. Fadedpaw was a good cat, very kind and modest. The thought had crossed her mind a time or two to mentor him herself, but she wondered if she was quite qualified for the job.
"maybe it had a death wish." she teased, laughing a wheezing laugh and nudging his flank with hers in a joking manner.

He tom let out a soft laugh "Yeah. It was probably thinking, better to be killed by a mouse then a bird. At least it will be quick. Maybe it was depressed." He was beginning to like spending time with Autumnflower. Most of the cats in his clan were so serious about everything, some he didn't even think knew how to joke around and have a good time. It was nice to be able to relax around someone and not have to live up to their expectations.
Sniffing the air he searched for prey scents, his pink nose raised into the gentle breeze. If anything was upwind of them they would find it without trouble and they're scents would be hidden to the prey as well. These were the perfect conditions to hunt in and he was looking forward to it.

Autumnflower was glad she could make the tom comfortable again, she thought the scene had started out a bit awkward.
She lifted her nose to the sky for a moment before crouching low to the ground, her ears pinned down on her head. She crept forward then veered off to the right, staying close to the ground and moving slowly and quietly. She stopped and stayed still for a moment before launching herself on the other side of the bush. The sharp cry of a bird was heard before a small crunching noise and Autumnflower's mouth was flooded with the coppery taste of the wood pigeon's blood.
She stepped back towards Fadedpaw and placed the carcass on the ground before him, licking her chops and grinning.
"your turn"
